Philosophy Crash Course
In class today, we got our graded tests back, watched a philosophy crash course, and took notes on the video. So far, this is what we wrote down in our notebook:
- Why do you do what you do, why do you think what you think, and why do you feel what you feel?
- Mythos= storytelling
-Philos= science
- Philosophia= the love of wisdom
- Philosophy= the academic study of anything
- Plato had a school called Plato's Academy: first university in the western world
- Aristotle had a school called Aristotle's Lyceum
- Philosophy came to be understood more as a way of thinking about questions
- What is the world like?: "What's the nature of reality?"
- Is the world just made up of matter and energy, or is there something else going on?
- Do I have a soul? Is there something immaterial about me that will survive after I die?
- Metaphysics= the branch of philosophy that studies the nature or reality
- Epistemology= the branch of philosophy that studies the nature and scope of knowledge
